What is different about Lowell

Older stock, tighter lots, different faults

Lowell garages are not Dracut garages. Much of the city is nineteenth and early twentieth century housing — triple-deckers, converted mill worker housing, and a great many detached single garages on narrow lots and shared driveways. That changes what goes wrong and what we bring.

Older, narrower openings

A lot of Lowell garages were built for a car that was six feet wide. Openings of 8×7 and smaller are common, and so are non-standard sizes that big-box replacement doors do not fit. If a company has told you your opening is "not a standard size" and quoted accordingly, that is often true — but it is a reason for a made-to-size door, not a reason for the number they gave you.

Low headroom

Old garages frequently have less than the twelve inches of headroom a standard torsion setup wants. There are proper low-headroom track and double-track systems for this. What you should not accept is extension springs stretched along the side rails without safety cables — a genuinely dangerous arrangement we still find in this city.

Detached garages, no power

Plenty of detached Lowell garages have no reliable circuit for an opener, or one long extension lead doing a job it should not. We will tell you honestly if what you need first is an electrician.

Rust from the bottom up

Doors that sit on an old concrete slab against a city street take salt every winter. The bottom section and the bottom brackets go first. A rusted bottom bracket is a real hazard — it holds the cable under full spring tension — and it is one of the first things we check here.

Lowell questions

Can you fit a door to a non-standard opening?

Yes. Doors are made to size and it is routine — it costs more than an off-the-shelf 9×7 and less than the framing alterations someone may have suggested to you.

My garage has almost no headroom. Is a torsion spring possible?

Usually, with low-headroom track. What we will not do is leave you on unsafe extension springs. If yours are stretched along the side rails with no safety cable through them, tell us on the phone.

Do you work on shared driveways?

Yes — most of our Lowell work is on them. Tell us when you book and we will bring the small truck.

Is the price different from Dracut?

No. Same service call, same job prices, same page.

Lowell door stuck?

Fifteen minutes away, same prices, same written estimate before we start.
