Service call Credited in full against any repairWritten down before work starts, not invented in your driveway

Nothing on this card is a claim. All six lines can be checked before you let anyone in.

How you get charged, before we arrive

In writing A price before work starts We come out, diagnose the door and write the price down. You read it and approve it before a single tool comes out of the van. ✓ Nothing starts until you say yes
Credited The service call comes off the bill Approve the repair and the call-out fee is credited in full. Decline it and you pay the call-out and nothing else — and you keep the written diagnosis. ✓ Never charged twice
Repair first We fix before we sell you a door Most doors we are called to replace do not need replacing. If a repair will hold, we will tell you so — even though the new door is the bigger invoice. ✓ The upsell we refuse to make

How we price a job, and what moves the number, on the how we price page.

Why this page is so blunt

You shouldn't have to guess whether the person coming to your house is real

The Better Business Bureau has a standing alert out on garage door repair. The pattern is always the same: a low number on the phone, an unmarked van, a stranger who won't give a last name, and a bill four times the quote once your car is trapped inside.

It works because a broken spring is an emergency and you call the first result. So here is the check, and we've made ourselves easy to fail it against.

Before you let anyone in6 checks
  • Ask for a street address. Then look it up. A company that services your town from an address it won't print is not a company.
  • Ask who is arriving, by name. You should get a first and last name and a photo before the truck pulls in.
  • Ask for the registration number. In Massachusetts, home improvement contractors are registered and the register is public.
  • Get the price in writing before work starts. Not after the door is apart.
  • !Be suspicious of a firm price on the phone. Nobody can price a spring they haven't weighed. A number quoted sight-unseen is bait.
  • !Be suspicious of an unmarked vehicle. And of "your whole door needs replacing" from someone who hasn't shown you why.

The company is one person's name

Hi — I'm Jeff Judson

There is no dispatcher here and no crew of strangers. I quote the job, I fit the door, and I am the one who picks up when you call afterwards. If that means a Saturday because nobody is home during the week, then it is a Saturday.

[Two or three more sentences from the client interview: how long Jeff has been doing this, where he learned the trade, and why he started his own shop. Written the way he actually talks — this block outperforms everything else on the page and it only works if it sounds like a person.]

If your door is down and your car is behind it, the number on this page rings a phone I carry. You'll know who is coming and what it costs before I get there.

The wedge

You will see the price before we touch the door.

The numbers on page one of Google are bait — a "$15 service call" from a business with no street number, quoted by someone who has not seen your door and has no intention of honouring it.

We do it the other way round. We look at the door, write the price down, and hand it to you. You decide with the number in your hand, not after the work is done.

What moves the numberBefore you approve it
Spring Single vs double springDoor weight and cycle rating decide the part, and the part decides the price
Opener Repair or replaceChain, belt or wall-mount; horsepower; whether camera and keypad are wanted
Tune-up Flat, whatever we find27 points, both safety systems, written report — one price, no extras added on the day

The service call is credited in full against any repair you approve.

Jeff came highly recommended from a good friend of mine. Jeff installed two new garage door systems for my new home and I am very pleased with how they came out. Jeff was very thorough, explained all the details with out me asking and did an excellent job with the install. His work is neat, clean and he provided a total package. I would highly recommend Jeff to anyone with garage door needs! Thank you!

Jeff repliedThank you for trusting in us with your garage door needs. 😃

Jeff Judson is ethical, honest, and one of the most thorough craftman I've ever met. His work is top notch!

In writing, so you can hold us to it

Seven promises

  • A written price before work starts. On paper, in your hand, before a tool comes out.
  • That price is the price. If we find something else, we stop and re-quote. We never add to a bill mid-job.
  • Repair before replacement. If your door can be fixed, we will fix it and tell you how long it should last.
  • You get a name and a photo of the person arriving, texted before they leave.
  • Our own people, in a marked truck. No subcontractors, no unmarked vans.
  • Warranty in plain English[X] years on springs, [X] on labour, written on the invoice, not in a footnote.
  • If the repair doesn't hold, we come back and make it right at no charge. That is the whole clause.

What happens after you call

  1. You describe the noise

Or send a ten-second video. Most doors can be diagnosed from a phone before anyone drives anywhere.

  2. You get a window and a price range

Not "sometime Tuesday". A window, and the range the job is likely to land in.

  3. You get the technician's name and photo

Texted before they leave the shop. You will know exactly who is standing at your door.

  4. You approve a written price

They look at the door, write the price down, and hand it to you. Nothing starts until you say yes.

  5. The service call comes off the bill

Approve the repair and the call-out fee is credited in full.
